'About'
page for details):
Nestled at the base of the Hunter Hills, Waimate was founded by Michael Studholme in July
1854. Shortly after that, a few Bennett's wallabies were imported from Australia. They
thrived in the Waimate district and have spread far and wide. You can see wallabies in EnkleDoovery Korna Nature Park (yep, that's the name),
Victoria park or in the wild.
Check out Waimate's silo art, visit its museum with eleven historic buildings or take a
walk in Kelcey's bush or Gunn's bush.
Drive to the 'The Box' and walk the pebble beach or do some fishing. Perhaps visit the totally revamped
White Horse monument on top of the hill to get a great view of the Waimate District (see image on the left)
